The back of the cafe
Posted: September 4, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 11 CommentsI’m mad at myself for not walking around Carré St. Louis before I painted this. The other side of the café was much more interesting, with people, umbrellas and signage but that only became apparent as I was leaving for the day.

I love the light airy effect Shari, and all that detail achieved with little dark negatives…
even more challenging without your fine liner pen. Super!
Thanks Mary. This was on a sheet of watercolour paper and I never use pen on these. The paper is too textured.
A charming little painting… and not an easy subject without your trusty pen.
Are those autumn (ie fall) colours that I am starting to see? I thought I saw the hint of some in the “Windsock panorama” as well, a few days ago.
Thanks Ross. There are touches of colour in the trees these days. But August was very dry and I’m not sure if the changes in colour are due to drought or autumn.
well…another one for your list
(if you’re like me there is a long list of locations)
There are so many John. I would have to give up my day job if I wanted to get to them all.
Just drove from Maine across Vermont this afternoon – if I stopped to sketch every appealing subject I might as well walk for all the progress I would make. Were it the coast, I could crawl from view to view.
I know what you mean John. That is a gorgeous drive. Even driving back from Ottawa at sunset the other night, the light was incredible and I could have stopped 100 times. It is not an amazing drive but the light was just perfect on every farm we passed.
Maybe that’s part of the ‘gift’…seeing with artist’s eyes.
I love this one. When one is at Parc Caré Saint-Louis, the trees are so high and dense that it creates a very dark canopy. Yet you managed to give it a light and airy feeling. Even the tree trunks are light and almost transparent. If I would have done it, it would have come out too dark and gloomy, especially in oil.
Thanks Helmut. It’s true, it was a dark canopy but I guess I have painted so many dark trees this summer that I wanted to do something a little different.
