The last apples

It’s feeling pretty frosty at my favorite Jean Talon Market apple stand. The sellers are huddled under their awning, the buyers are bundled in scarves and gloves, and even the apples are trying to warm themselves in the sun.

Selling Apples

  1. Looks very similar to our day, Shari. A group of us met at the Farmer’s market with the notion of sketching outdoors. We did…for a while. When we lost all feeling in our fingers, though, we headed indoors and were fortunate enough to find a couple tables and some chairs and we spend the day talking, sketching, and eating apples.

What ink do you use when you do sketches like this? Looks like a nice, washable ink.

    • Sounds like a great day Larry. The ink I used for this came when I bought the pen at deSerres. It is a Pentel Tradio fountain pen. I hated it at first but I am coming around…

      • It’s probably impossible to know what kind of ink came with it. My impression is that Pentel has slapped their name on a pen made by someone else as they don’t sell fountain inks at all. I remember looking at the pen and decided that the nib was too heavy for my tastes. In your hands, though it’s magic.

That’s why I threw it in the drawer in the first place but then took it back out to try it with water. I still find the nib a bit heavy but it seems to work on that paper.

light and ‘sketchy” Shari. Not sure the forground chairs were helpful – seems like a photographic composition rather than the simple narrative of the chilled apple vendors.
