QWERTY
Posted: October 16, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 32 CommentsThe Moleskine sketchbook seems to lend itself well to objects that have a certain patina to them — like the bag I painted yesterday or this old Royal that lives in my house. Of course the ivory paper helps too. It’s like painting in a sketchbook that has been hanging around for years and years in my basement (a bit like the typewriter!).

Yes, totally agree with you, Moleskine does give a bit nostalgic look to everything drawn in it. Wonderful drawing, portrait of the typewriter. 🙂
Thanks Nikira. I see you do some nice things in this book too!
Lovely and such a gorgeous, muted pallet.
Thanks Vicky!
this is fantastic Shari!
Amazing details, well done!
Thanks Genine!
Thanks Angie!
Beautiful typewriter portrait. Makes me miss the clacking of the keys and the ding at the end of a row.
Great old noises we never hear any more.
You are great..the details are wonderful.
Thanks Monique!
Whoa! That’s remarkable. I like the way it bleeds off the right side. This paper really does make the paint work in a different way, doesn’t it.
It does work differently but I welcome the change and struggling with it a bit.
This is beautiful Shari. The detail is great!
Thanks Yvonne!
Such precision! I love how every single key stands out and looks so real.
Thanks Hetterbell!
You work the moleskine beautifully, Shari! The pearling colour works great with the subjetcts you chose for your sketches. I´m impressed by the stunning results on this difficult paper.
Thank you Isa. I am trying to make it work and getting to like it.
I don’t like to draw on moleskine sketchbooks, and it’s because of this that I get so amazed when I see drawings like this one! And I’m not sure if the nostalgic atmosphere is given by the paper… I’d say you did most of it. I guess you know when you want powerful sunny fresh colors and when you prefer to taste an old red wine. Great drawing, Shari.
You are right Miguel. I think this is a week for the old red wine. Thanks for your nice comments.
I love the last 2 days drawings!
Thanks! So glad you like these…
So, I am guessing that this was done just to prove that yesterday wasn’t a fluke.
The rendering of the keyboard is really impressive and I am still amazed by how small you are doing these paintings. Also, I really like the unusual offset composition… works so well on the double page… but it does leave me wondering if that left page was an afterthought? (You don’t have to confess if you don’t want to.) Can’t wait to see what other old stuff you have lying around the house.
The left page was planned from the outset Ross. I really wanted to include that lever because the shape was so interesting.
It is good to hear that it was planned… because the off-centre subject with the lever pointing into the open space creates such an interesting composition.
Really beautiful typewriter sketch.
Thanks Gianluca!
Lovely! I’m such a fan of old typewriters.
Me too!
Something caught me with this one. Love them all btw.
