My two-inch flats
Posted: December 9, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 4 CommentsMy two-inch flats are not shoes. They are the brushes I use when I am painting large-scale watercolours. It may seem hard to imagine that you can paint with any accuracy at all with a two-inch brush but you would be surprised at how much of a painting can be painted with these. With a good quality brush (these are Langnickel) you can obtain very sharp edges and by angling them you can create very thin lines as well. It is only at the very end of the painting when I am adding in the little details that I switch to a smaller brush.

That’s funny… with that title I was expecting another shoe painting.
So, I am imagining you were sitting there at your wonderful big table and just couldn’t think what the hell you should draw today? The brushes are always a good subject. And these would be so useful… when you finish the artwork you could always do a couple of coats of Dulux on the walls and ceilings. : )
That’s exactly right. I had only about twenty minutes to draw today and those brushes were right in front of me. Perfect.
And when I have a room that needs painting they are there for that too.
I had a brush obsession back in my art school days, and no matter how poor of an art student I was, I had to have my kolinsky sable brushes. Wonderful sketch; I enjoy following your blog!
I still have a brush obsession Jason and I am slowly replacing the sables from my art school days with new ones. One by one though, because they cost a bomb!
