Working on the boat

It’s always so exciting when the boats go into the water at the Pointe Claire Yacht Club. It’s the only club around the West Island where you can get a really good view of the sailboats and even park in a place with a decent angle to draw from the car. And on a rainy day sailors are always out there puttering with stuff. As I’ve said many times before, I don’t know boat terminology but I find sailboats really beautiful. And if it’s true that you should paint what you love, then I will keep on painting boats.

I don’t know why, but I like sail boats. A lot of definition. I could almost count the boats. You make me realize I have so much to learn.

Shari, this is me working on my boat. I love it. Will you sell it? Can I afford it?

    • Hi William,
First of all I want to know how you found my blog. That’s so funny. Did a friend recognize you? Or your boat? I can’t sell you the sketch because it’s in a book but I would love to make you a print which you will certainly be able to afford. And I would love to go sailing next summer!

Staff at the PCYacht Club saw it first, then I googled until I found your blog… So glad I did! I will be really grateful to obtain a print. It will occupy the place of honour in my living room.

Next summer, you’re booked for sure. We can show you what she looks like under sail, when it’s blowing a bit, and may be able to show you some other interesting subjects to sketch – I’m thinking of the gatherings of 50+ boats at the sandbar on calm days, or a regatta from up close…

      • That’s pretty funny. I have sketched the yacht club many times. Have you seen the other sketches? I have sketched it at least 5 or 6 times, if not more.
I will make you a print and let you know when it’s ready. And we are on for next summer. As long as you don’t mind having in inexperienced sailor along for the ride.

Everybody walked onto a sailboat for the 1st time, at some time… We’ll look after you.
I’ve seen as many of your sketches of the club as I can find, as well as others. I really like your work.
If you can tell me how to do it, I’ll send you a photo of a watercolour that was a wedding gift to my parents, and has kept me enthralled since childhood…

Should have added: Would you like to sail on her some time?
