Capella de Sant Nicolau
Posted: July 23, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 14 CommentsI picked this scene because cypresses don’t grow in my part of Canada and I find their verticality and dense foliage very beautiful. I had no idea until I started researching them that there was a link between the building and the surrounding trees. Turns out that this 12th century building is a funerary chapel and the cypresses are a symbol of mourning in many cultures.

Shari, thanks so much for the color tips yesterday!
This one is a fantastic composition with a great sense of light.
I hope you get to have a show of your work from this summer.
Thanks Linda. Yes, I’m part of a big outdoor show in early September so I have to have a lot of work for that. Rockport, Spain, etc.
Beautifully done!
Thanks!
Lovely composition that really gives a sense of the space. Lovely depiction of the cypress trees!
Thanks Alison. It’s hard to paint those trees. If you go too light they don’t look right and if they’re too dark they don’t look cylindrical.
Vraiment très très joli ! Bravo, c’est superbe.
Merci Isa!
That warm light is perfect!
Thanks Marc! It’s something I miss now that we are back…
Those trees! You caught their volume wonderfully.
I love those drawing those cypresses. Thanks Lee!
Another beautiful painting – you are truly inspiring!! Thank you for sharing your lovely work.
Thanks so much Helen!
