Pole to pole
Posted: June 18, 2015 Filed under: Uncategorized 16 CommentsFrom my deck there’s a great view of the back of the shops along Bearskin Neck in Rockport, and I think I enjoy sketching this more than I do the facades. There’s not a straight building in the bunch and they seem to be held together by a jumble of wires and electric poles. What a great study in repeating patterns of triangular roofs and rectangular shingles.

I really like this and I’m intrigued by how you handled the subject. I spend quite a bit of time on the Maine coast and like the jumble of weathered buildings and fishing docks there, but it’s sometimes hard for me to simplify the scene enough to tackle it. I’ve been enjoying your Rockport sketches.
On holiday I have more time to draw! I did spend a long time on the drawing and the building textures. More time than usual.
What colors do you mix to make your grays? This is beautiful!
Hi Melanie. I think for this I used a lot of indigo mixed with burnt sienna and some Aluzarin mixed in too.
So much detail!
Hope you offer more classes..hint hint…
Love all the blues..greys..lines..
Everything I guess.
Thanks Monique. I hope they ask me back for more classes too!
Fun!
Thanks Dee.

Best
Jess

Hi Renata. You have lifetime access to these! Enjoy your travels.
I can tell you are relaxing, this is magnificently peaceful! Enjoy your trip, I certainly am. Jacques
You are so right. It’s a very relaxing trip. I painted a lot too but will only post those when I get home and can properly scan them.
Hi Shari. Beautiful painting. I love the color in the sky. It brings all the other warm colors (chimneys etc.) together into a unified composition against all those blues. I enjoy your rambling wires-they make for a playful rhythm.
