Lost… and found!
Posted: March 28, 2016 Filed under: Uncategorized 123 CommentsI knew when I saw an Atlanta number on my phone that it could only be good news about my lost bag. Yes, it has been located and is on its way back home as I write this.
I knew from the start of my journey home from Savannah that it had been mistagged. It travelled all the way to Denver and when no one claimed it, it was sent back to the lost luggage depot in Atlanta. Thanks to self-proclaimed nosy Delta baggage employee Jerry who looked at my luggage tag and realized it did not match the name on the Delta tag. He phoned me himself to give me the good news.
Thanks to everyone who wrote to me and sent such positive messages. I think Jerry had a sense that this was a bag that needed to get home. As for today’s sketch, it’s something I have been working on these past few days as I tried to remember everything that needed to get listed for the insurance claim.
Congratulations. Great news ….. and well done Jerry!
Wonderful, wonderful news. Easter presents come in many ways!
Yes, I have photos of our great week but it’s not the same as sketches, is it? Thanks Victoria.
Thanks Tony. And much appreciation to Jerry!
Of course I am happy that your bag is on its way beach to you. I really believed it would happen. But I admire your spirit of ‘keeping on’ while waiting.
Thanks Chris. So happy that it’s on its way home.
So happy to hear this!
Thanks Paula!
Great News! Whew! A happy ending for you and your lost luggage.
Happy endings are the best Louise!
I’m so happy your luggage is found – hooray! I’ve had the experience of knowing that bags were not properly tagged and know what a maddening and helpless feeling that creates.
I look forward to meeting you in Manchester. May all of our belongings stay en route and arrive with us in July!
I look forward to that too Barbara. And you know I will be packing differently for that trip, don’t you?
As my mother used to say “All things in due time….or at least at sometime” phew!
I like that. Sounds like a wise mother. Hope you are well Jane.
Fantastic!!!! Many thanks to Jerry 🙂
Yes, I even told another Delta employee to tell Jerry to have a look at the comments here so he can see how many people mentioned him. Thanks Sandi!
May I join the chorus… Very happy the bag’s been found! Today’s sketch is charming and it doesn’t pain me to look at it now.
You may join the chorus Andrea. Thanks so much for writing!
So pleased for you. There’s no more sinking feeling than when your bag isn’t on that carousel. Three cheers for Delta’s Gerry. Good man. Good work. Good outcome.
Now onward and upward to Spring and painting in the great outdoors.
Thanks Janice, and once again to my hero, Jerry!
When I heard the story about the dog who was returned to its owner after 3 years, I knew your luggage would find you soon. (not 3 yrs., of course) What great news.
Judy
Can you believe that? Glad I only lost my suitcase and not my dog. Thanks for writing Judy.
It goes without saying that the whoie world is relieved that your bag and you will be reunited.
Thanks Evelyn! Hope all is well with you and that you didn’t end up with all the bug bites like I did.
Been following your lost luggage saga and I smiled broadly at today’s post picturing all your lost items. Thanks for your inspiring blog. I enjoy your sketches and save them in a special file so I can easily revisit your tips on pens, paper, and paints, color and composition.
I so appreciate you writing Michael. Many thanks!
Fantastic news Shari. And your great sketch is a good lesson for all of us to do something like this before we travel!
As I was responding to comments, I realized that this sketch can now become my packing list! Thanks for your good wishes.
Hurray! Things couldn’t help but have a happy ending with all those positive vibes whirling their way through the ether! And, lets all wish some mighty good things for Jerry too!
Many thanks to you for thinking of me, and to Jerry for taking the time to look at the name on the bag.
Hurray! and a big shout-out to Jerry from Delta!
Thanks so much Mary!
Hi Shari, So glad that your “stuff” has been found and you are getting it back! I hope it is all accounted for and in good condition. We have had a few episodes like yours and many years ago had our dog kennel (with dog) lost going to Pittsburgh. Turned out he was just misplaced on the ground for a few hours and shortly after getting to our destination, we were called back to the airport to get him! Happy spring and congrats on getting your luggage back! ~Tom
I hope so Tom. It came in late last night to Montreal, and I was at school all day, but it is scheduled to be at my door in the next few hours. At least it won’t need to be fed like I’m sure your dog did after being misplaced. What a crazy story. Glad all turned out well for you too, and hope the Denver spring is beautiful.
You will hear a cheer all the way from Arkansas when you have it in hand!
I will be listening for it Dee. Thanks for thinking of me!
Gosh! I’m relieved for you 🙂
Thanks so much Renee!
Alleluia!!!!
Merci Monique!
Oh and thank God for Jerry!!!
That’s what I said to him when he called! Thanks!
LOVE the sketch of your “things” for the insurance!
I keep telling people that this will now be repurposed as a packing list for the next trip.
Great news! Jerry is awesome, and your sketch is charming.
Jerry is awesome. After I told him so several times, he started to get uncomfortable and think I was some kind of nutcase. It was pretty funny.
Wonderful news!
Thanks!
Shari,
Je suis réellement contente pour vous!
This good Jerry is an angel and give him our warm salutation !!!
You can relax now and those drawings are a very good idea ..
Merci Louise!
Shari
So happy your luggage was found–my husband said you should send your sketch to Delta Airlines and let them see what you possibly could have lost!
Lisa
Lisa, one of the reasons I want my book back is to make some prints of the chapel for all of you. Glad I’ll be able to do that now!
Wonderful news. So happy for you.
Thanks so much Marisa.
Wonderful news! I can sleep again!

Thanks Ilana!!!!!
Yea!!
Thanks Julana!
Fantastic news! And special recognition to Delta baggage claim/handler Jerry! I look forward to seeing all of your Palmetto Bluff paintings as it’s a favorite place of mine.
I think it has become a favourite place of mine too Judith. It is quite special. So happy to be getting my sketches back, and a big thanks again to Jerry.
What a relief for you. Great news:-)
I had my car broken into 8 years ago and they stole, amongst other things, my first little watercolour palette from when I was a teenager, and travel brushes. They left behind my sketchbooks, which of course were the items I couldn’t replace. Last week I heard that they have apprehended the thief! Some things just take time, though I don’t expect to get anything back after all that time…
They apprehended the thief after 8 years! That’s quite incredible. Imagine if they did get your things back after all this time? That would be a story in itself.
Yes, it is a relief about the bag. And a good lesson in packing for me…
Let us know if you do, however. One never knows.
Hi Shari,
I’m so happy you have your bag returned and will have all the special items, mostly the irreplaceable sketches. Can’t wait to see them!
Joanna
thanks so much Joanna. I look forward to opening my bag tonight to see if everything is fine in there. I’m have no doubt it will be, but you never know.
Most folks make a list…I love you made a sketch of the luggage contents! Glad it was found.
Hi Randy. This will now be repurposed into a packing list for the next trip. I just have to add a few things to it and it will be ready to go!
Thank goodness, that bag was priceless!
Thanks Lyn. Yes, such good memories in that sketchbook! Glad I will have it back soon.
Hope spreads just knowing that ‘lost’ situations work out for others!
So true. It was a story with a happy ending Patricia.
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!! You win and we’ll win when you post your work. They rarely loose luggage these days. I hoped it would turn up.
Me too Carolyn. I was pretty certain it would turn up eventually, just not sure how long it would take.
So glad they found your luggage!
Me to Liliane!
Super news that it is on the way home!!! I did have to smile when I saw this sketch. Only a sketcher would approach what was missing this way…I love it! I’m so glad Jerry was so observant!
I am glad he was observant too Joan. He did admit to going out of his way to read the tag, and I am so grateful that he did.
So happy for you! and for all those sketches and paintings we’ll now get to see!
Thanks Suhita. I am thrilled to get them back tonight. Not so thrilled to get the laundry that has been in the back for 10 days…
So Happy for you Cuz. Yay to Jerry (like that name :))
Look forward to seeing all the beautiful work you did in the South. Xoxo
Thanks. And hopefully you will get to go to these same places next time!!
Happy Dance!!!
Yes!
I’m so happy for you! I look forward to seeing those wandering sketches!
And I look forward to posting them! Thanks so much.
Hi Shari, I am sooo glad your luggage turned up. And I loved the way you catalogued your lost items!
Susan
Thanks Susan. And now that catalogue will be my packing list for future trips!
What AWESOME GOOD news!!! We are so happy for you. Alice Kolb

Thanks so much Alice!
happy for you 🙂
Thanks for writing Nina!
Great news for you. Kudos to employees like Jerry who pay attention to details & care enough to try to fix things. Looking forward to seeing your work from your trip.
That was exactly what Jerry did. He made that little extra effort to figure it out and I am so grateful to him. Thanks for writing Janet.
What a relief! I’ve been through that, and it’s a pain.
Yes, a huge relief Pat!
Yay!!!!!! That’s awesome news, Shari!! I’m so thrilled to hear that. I was sending positive vibes and worried for a bit they weren’t working!! 😊 hehe… So happy for you! And for all of us as we’ll get to see the missing sketches!! 😉
Charlie, it turns out that they were working after all. Just took a little longer than you thought. Thanks for sending them my way, or maybe in Jerry’s direction.
At last!
Yes!
Delighted! I love a story with a happy ending 😊
It just arrived at my door. Hooray. And thanks so much for thinking of me!
Such good news!! I love your sketches of the contents!
Thanks so much Sheila. The bag just arrived home!
I’m very happy for you … now when I fly , I verify that my tag is well done, shipped at the good city or country, an error arrive so fast and employee rush too much, sometimes … enjoy your come back home luggage … Lise G.
Thanks so much Lise. From now on I will take a photo of my bag as it leaves my side… just in case! I think this employee knew she had made a mistake, and I should have pushed a little harder for her to go and check it. Now I know, but hopefully this will never happen again.
Yay! I’m so glad your luggage made it home. And I like your fun sketch of lost items…well, fun now that they’ve been returned.
It was a bit sad to draw these thinking that the bag was lost, but now that it’s been found I can repurpose the sketch into a packing list for myself!
What good news! When our bags almost always arrive with us, we can forget how easily they may go astray……… So glad you had a tag on your bag with the correct contact info!
It was definitely a lesson Vicky. We do take it for granted that everything will be on the other end when you arrive, but I will certainly be packing differently from now on. Thanks for thinking of me.
I love your attitude…and your sense of humor. Especially regarding happenings that are out
of our control.
Thanks Bob. I guess it’s better than crying about it, right? Of course I can say that now that the bag is back!
Good, Good, Good for you. The number of positive and supportive messages you are receiving shows the great esteem SO MANY PEOPLE have for you and your art. Very best wishes for the safe return of everything.
The number of supportive messages was astounding Jeff. Thanks so much for writing and thinking of me. Hope you are well and hope to see you both soon.
So happy for you your bag is on its way home! I love the sketch list you made of everything in your suitcase, and I can’t wait to see the sketches from your trip!
Thanks so much Linda. I will be happy when that bag finally makes it to my door tonight.
Great news!
Thanks Chris. It is a huge relief!
had a problem getting my comment to go through on my phone earlier… but YAY!!! so excited and pleased. And I don’t need to tell you how much I love this type of sketch!
Excellent!
