Lost… and found!

I knew when I saw an Atlanta number on my phone that it could only be good news about my lost bag. Yes, it has been located and is on its way back home as I write this.

I knew from the start of my journey home from Savannah that it had been mistagged. It travelled all the way to Denver and when no one claimed it, it was sent back to the lost luggage depot in Atlanta. Thanks to self-proclaimed nosy Delta baggage employee Jerry who looked at my luggage tag and realized it did not match the name on the Delta tag. He phoned me himself to give me the good news.

Thanks to everyone who wrote to me and sent such positive messages. I think Jerry had a sense that this was a bag that needed to get home. As for today’s sketch, it’s something I have been working on these past few days as I tried to remember everything that needed to get listed for the insurance claim.

I’m so happy your luggage is found – hooray! I’ve had the experience of knowing that bags were not properly tagged and know what a maddening and helpless feeling that creates.

Hi Shari, So glad that your “stuff” has been found and you are getting it back! I hope it is all accounted for and in good condition. We have had a few episodes like yours and many years ago had our dog kennel (with dog) lost going to Pittsburgh. Turned out he was just misplaced on the ground for a few hours and shortly after getting to our destination, we were called back to the airport to get him! Happy spring and congrats on getting your luggage back! ~Tom

    • I hope so Tom. It came in late last night to Montreal, and I was at school all day, but it is scheduled to be at my door in the next few hours. At least it won’t need to be fed like I’m sure your dog did after being misplaced. What a crazy story. Glad all turned out well for you too, and hope the Denver spring is beautiful.

  17. Dee says:

  32. What a relief for you. Great news:-)
I had my car broken into 8 years ago and they stole, amongst other things, my first little watercolour palette from when I was a teenager, and travel brushes. They left behind my sketchbooks, which of course were the items I couldn’t replace. Last week I heard that they have apprehended the thief! Some things just take time, though I don’t expect to get anything back after all that time…

  33. Joanna Guglielmino says:

    Hi Shari,

    • Thanks so much Lise. From now on I will take a photo of my bag as it leaves my side… just in case! I think this employee knew she had made a mistake, and I should have pushed a little harder for her to go and check it. Now I know, but hopefully this will never happen again.
