Another CAT
Posted: May 2, 2024 Filed under: Uncategorized 10 CommentsNow that I’m not on the road, it’s time to catch up on my daily sketches. This scene is just outside my office window — trucks lined up to pave a driveway — and it’s the perfect subject for a quick drawing. I grab what’s close at hand. A fountain pen with blue ink and a sketchbook with smooth paper for drawing. I hope that they will stay there until I am done. A seated figure on the CAT would have been even better but I am not so lucky. Maybe they will be back another day.

A cool CAT, right??
Fond memories of an airbrush workshop in Peoria Ill. circa 1980’s 🙂
Nice ‘Kitty’ today 😉
Chris, what did you airbrush in Peoria?
Hi Shari
Thanks, I attended an airbrush illustration workshop at Dynamic Graphics, a major clip art firm that was based in Peoria (same as CAT had been at that time).
The class covered equipment, workplace safety, masking, air flow, special effects and photo-retouching.
Activities concluded with a project of our own choice using reference provided.
I replicated a little girl playing a grand piano (back view) and I chose to float the image in a cloud filled sky – I wince now, but well, it was the 80’s 😉
I still have my Iwata airbrush and Gast compressor.
Airbrushing is now, more of a software function but I find that all of the skills that I learned and practised manually are easily transferable in other ways – so it’s all good.
Nice sketch of the construction equipment. When I first saw your title I expected an actual animal. This was a fun surprise!
Great quick sketches! It’s so important to keep a few drawing tools handy. I like your vertical shading…..b
Hi Shari. I donât know if itâs just me, but Iâm being blocked from getting
Hi Heather. Your comment was cut off. Can you email at info(at)shariblaukopf.com
I don’t even know what you were blocked for but I want to help you.
Thanks!
Love the sketch! I’m usually a soft pencil/nature kind of sketcher, you inspired me to try working with pen and attempting to make no wrong lines, rather than relying on many small thin lines eventually creating the correct shape by volume.
