Pascale
Posted: June 15, 2018 Filed under: Uncategorized 27 CommentsPascale was one of the best models to draw this session. Not only were her warm-up poses exceptional, but on breaks from the long pose, her vivacious personality lit up the room. I think that makes a difference when you are drawing someone, don’t you? I find I do a better drawing if I understand something about the personality of the model. This was the last session before I take a break for the summer, and it was a great way to end the season.
I drew last night with black and white chalk, on Stillman & Birn Nova Series grey paper. It was the ideal paper to use for someone with dark toned skin, although I didn’t know who our model would be when I packed my supplies. At the end of the evening, Pascale did a tour of the room to look at the drawings, and her comment about mine was that I rendered her tattoo very well. Can you tell what it is?
Tattoo of a beautiful and graceful dancer!
Yes, Carolyn, it is a flamenco dancer!
Both drawings are really beautiful. You’re right about the toned paper. It really gives a warmth to the drawing and makes the white highlights pop. Re: the tattoo, I’m torn between a dancer and an octopus…sorry. Anyway that is not the real subject and those you nailed beautifully.
That’s pretty funny Jeff. When I was sitting further away during the short poses, I saw the tattoo and thought it was an octopus as well. But when I drew her from the back I realized it was a flamenco dancer. Tattoos are hard to draw, aren’t they? Anyway, thanks for the kind words. See you soon!!
my first guess about the tattoo is dancer; but the more i look at it the more i am not sure.
It’s a flamenco dancer! Good guess.
oh nice!
Thanks Maggie!
When I saw these on IG I thought..as always..lol..wow.
I knew a dancer too!!
Thanks Monique!
Just a dancer to me. Nice drawings. My classical art school in Philly was almost all nude drawing and painting. Even clay modeling. Don’t think I could draw one again. Good for you keeping up with it.
Judy, I find that if I draw from the model, all other drawing that I do gets better. It is just great practice even though I am rarely satisfied with the results.
Lovely, lovely, lovely drawings! They hold such expression and beauty. Thank you for sharing.
And thank you for writing Bernadette!
Her tattoo looks like a Flameco (sp?) dancer.
That is exactly what it is!
Lovely drawings. Her hair is beautifully rendered also. There is a calm feeling to these.
Thanks Alison. There was a calm feeling in the room and I think I caught the vibe.
Lovely sketches of Pascale and her tattoo of the dancer!
Thanks Joan.
Flamenco dancer. Love these! But can’t imagine why anyone would have a flamenco dancer on their back… I’d even prefer the octopus 😆
Marina, this could be the start of a long discussion about tattoos. I have often wondered about the significance of the imagery on someone’s arm or leg or chest, but rarely ask. It seems to me that I would be intruding if I inquire.
Can’t help but add—to try to understand the significance of tattoos on the arms of basketball stars could would make for a very, very long discussion.
That too.
It probably would! But it’s interesting…
Hope it isn’t too personal to ask where you are doing you life drawing?
Not personal at all. I do it at Galerie d’art Pointe Claire.
