Provence workshop Day Two: Lavender and red rocks

The day started with a drive to a lavender field where we spent the morning under the shade of a huge tree, painting a view of the rows of flowers. We’re very lucky to be here during the short blooming season.
I started with a demo, simplifying the rows of lavender into loose shapes.
So thrilled with my students work. They also painted in simple shapes and loose washes. 
We’re spoiled every day by our amazing French Escapade guide Natalia. Lunch was sandwiches and my favourite: Cavaillon melon.
In the afternoon we headed over to nearby Roussillon for a few free hours of shopping, ice cream eating and sketching. Of course I had to sketch the red town piled on top of the red rocks.

Takes me right back there! Did you see ‘the paint shop’ ….. jars and jars of beautifully coloured powders, a picture in itself? Hope Provence is everything you remembered and more.

Breathtaking…just breathtaking! Love everyone’s work. I can’t imagine seeing those fields…but everyone of you will remember the smells, the textures, the beauty as you go back and look at your paintings. Oh the beautiful memories you are making (and the little master pieces as well) Look forward to tomorrow’s adventure.

I really enjoy seeing the work of your students…..wonderful studies! I too envy them, the trip, the place and opportunity to be lead under your direction.
It’s very interesting to see the variety of sketchbooks that your students are using as well. Great work by all.
love lavender, provence, and your work, as always, the clean colors, the visual interpretation etc etc. i have a few lavender clumps as well in my garden, but not as glorious as the ones you and your students have painted.

Just looked closely at the dessert. Love melon too. But the little tea biscuits–worth the trip! I could make a main meal out of this. Anyone paint it?
