Alice in the studio
Posted: December 16, 2023 Filed under: Uncategorized 19 CommentsAlice doesn’t have a studio routine yet. In my old office she had her green bed and she was always at my side when I was working. But the new studio doesn’t quite feel familiar yet. The green bed is there but the surroundings are new, the sounds are different, and she’s not quite relaxed enough to have a long nap. Although it seems like she’s sleeping in my drawing, one eye is always on me to see where I will go. Sketched on a sheet of Strathmore Bristol Vellum with an HB pencil.

And if you are interesting in seeing a few pics of my new studio, I’ll be sharing that in the next issue of my (mostly) monthly newsletter “The Wheelbarrow”. If you’re not a subscriber, you can sign up on my website. Just wait for the popup or fill in the form at the bottom of the page.

At least Alice is a constant.
I always love to see her.
Are you happy in your new surroundings?
Susan, I love my new surroundings. It’s great to have a change after all those years at the same place. And this place has much more light, which was one of the reasons we moved. It was definitely the right decision, and we can enjoy it now since all the packing and unpacking is over!!
Oh I’m so happy for you. Very exciting. When you wait over fifty years in the one place, you are never going to move. I’m the one who wrote to you about the Syncrude building. I never got around to painting it and those days are over thanks to arthritis and carpal tunnel. I live vicariously through people like you.
Keep drawing and painting. Cheers.
That’s what people told us. If we wait too long we won’t have the energy to do it, so we did it now and are happy we did. But it was a bit thing. A friend said we were very brave to do this, but our word for it was “crazy”. Anyway, it’s done and now we can relax over the holidays when our kids get here. It will be nice.
And happy holidays to you!!
Hi Shari. You always make my day when you draw Alice! Thank you. Every joy in your new home. I’m not familiar with Hudson the way I am with the W.I., so am looking forward to your future paintings once you are settled. Sending a hug from B.C.
Thanks Lori. I will certainly miss my WI spots, but there will definitely be places around here that are more rural but just as interesting! Happy holidays!!
Dear Alice! Merry Christmas.
And to you too Susie!
Love to Alice! Frank B
Thanks Frank. Alice gets so much love but I will give her some extra from you today.
Yes, yes, yes…want to see more of Alice sleeping, adjusting to new surroundings and a peek at your new studio too!
Working on that now Bernadette!
Lily does the same thing😁
I think Lily and Alice would be good friends if you lived closer.
Happy Holidays and all my Best Wishes to you and your family for Health and Happiness in the New Year. Many thanks for keeping me
Involved and inspired through your paintings and teaching excursions throughout the year.. ! It’s always so nice to see your message in my in-box! Have fun settling into your new home and surroundings! How exciting!
Ruth
