Green house on Main
Posted: February 20, 2026 Filed under: Uncategorized 10 CommentsI can’t bear the stress in the house when Olympic hockey is on. This morning I escaped to the glass bubble of my car studio and painted in silence. It was unusually quiet on Main Road in Hudson. I suspect other tv sets were on in the vicinity.
The viewpoint that I chose features a curve in the road, a bit like the one I’ve painted often in Pointe Claire Village. Like yesterday’s sketch, I used another limited palette from my Schink swatch sheet. This time it was Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red and Ultramarine. I love the soft tones and warm browns that you get from this triad — perfect for winter scenes on overcast days. As for the hockey game, it worked out well for Canada so I guess I will be out painting again on Sunday.

Hi Shari
Really interesting. Great mood. I like how simply you portrayed the snow – you’ve captured its present qualities and brightness just so. 🙂
Chris, thank you. We’ve had some great snow to paint this winter. I’m waiting for the next sunny day to get out there again.
Very nice! You made a drivers view believable and interesting.
Thanks so much Bernadette.
Shari, I suspect that Canada will be closed for business on Sunday as the nation watches hockey, so you may find plenty of empty streets to inspire your sketching! The pop of red really makes this scene for me.
Maureen, it was snowing here during the game so I never made it out to sketch. I had to watch that exciting but inevitably disappointing game.
That’s the way I feel during football season here in the US!! I like this sketch! You make the ordinary beautiful and so simply.
Laura, thank you.
This triad gave you some really lovely neutrals! A friend forwarded an article, “My Car is My Art Studio” from PleinAir Today. As soon as I started reading it I knew it had to be your article.lol It was great…very similar to what I do in my mobile studio. Love the wintry paintings. We’ve had a bit of snow recently (and it lasted) so I’ve actually been painting it…and more is expected on Sunday. I’ll keep my paints ready.
Joan, I’m glad you saw the article. I am going to share it on my next blog post.
Apparently you are getting another blizzard today. Hope all is well.
