Ville St. Pierre
Posted: January 1, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 40 CommentsA while back I posted a value sketch for this scene and I found some time to complete it during my holidays. The rest and the break were much-needed but I have missed writing my daily posts. I realize that my writing is a bit rusty (for me it requires daily practice just like sketching does!) but I have been drawing and painting and will post some of those in the coming days. In the meantime I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and very creative 2013. Thanks again for all the feedback, encouragement and friendship you have sent my way.
11″ x 15″, Arches 300 lb paper.

I am an absolut fan of your drawings. Love the light in this one.
Thanks so much Virginia! Comments are so much appreciated!
…. and Happy New Year to you as well Shari. Excellent completion of your
value sketch.
Thanks Leslie. Great to hear from you!
I missed your daily paintings and your comments. Wishing you the very best for2013!
Thanks Diane. It feels great to be back.
beautiful! the light is enigmatic 🙂
Thanks so much!!
Welcome back Shari and Happy New Year! I love the atmosphere in this painting 😉
Thanks Jane. Happy New Year to you too. May you have many wonderful sketching days this year!
Lovely painting. Keep them coming in 2013. As far as writing: isn’t it weird that something we’ve done since childhood can become rusty, yet it does, and pretty quickly.
Thanks! And yes, it is funny about the writing but it is so true.
I love this evening light. The magic hour!
Thanks Evie!
Shari: I hope your family is well as the new year unfolds. You know my heart is with you in this time. Lee
Thanks so much Lee. Wishing you many great sketches in 2013!
And a happy New Year to you too!
Thanks!!
The color really brings the scene to life. Even though I have never been there, I feel like I need to visit.
Thanks,
M.M.
Thanks and best wishes to you.
Happy New Year Shari. Hope we get to sketch together in 2013. Maybe it’s time for a California trip!-Cathy
A California trip would be great Cathy. I love your area and would be happy to sketch there one of these days!
This is great; I remember seeing the value sketch, and you carried the look and feel nicely across to the final piece.
Thanks Jason!!
I always enjoy looking at your blog! Thank you, and good New Year to you.
Thanks Judy and best wishes for a great year.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I love the light in this one too. You’ve inspired me to try sketching with my watercolors in town instead of just working at home. I’m hopefully gonna try it from my local cafe this week. 🙂
That’s great Heather. Just get out there and do it.
Yes, I remember this!! Very nice street scene!!! Happy New Year, Shari!!
Thanks Katrin!!
Shari, wonderful painting! One of thee highlights of 2012 for me was to meet you and be part of your workshop! Thank you for everything you share! All the best for 2013 and hope to see you soon.
Miriam, one of the highlights of my Paris workshop was having you in the group. I hope I see your smiling face in 2013!!
Shari, I know this location very well as I drive past it every day on my way home. I also know this was based on an earlier sketch as the streets today have huge snowbanks on both sides making navigating the road by car a challenge, and the sidewalks are still narrow foot beaten-down paths! Keep up the great work. I look forward to your daily posts. And, your writing skills are excellent. They add so much colour and context to your visual stories.
Yes Kathrine. This was based on an earlier sketch that I did before all the snow fell. Most of Montreal is still unmanageable for pedestrians and people looking to park their cars. So glad you enjoy the posts. It is always great to hear this from people. Keeps me going!!
Happy New Year to you too, and keep those sketches coming; who knows, some of the creativity may rub off on me eventually!
Thanks Gina. Hopefully we will get to meet in 2013. Are you going to be in Barcelona during the Urban Sketchers Symposium in July? I hope to be able to get there.
Great light with such few tones!!!
It was one of those very hazy days. That usually means lots of pollution but beautiful, soft light.
