Soccer field

This park faces Lac St. Louis and in the summer people get their ice cream at Wild Willy’s and stroll down to the lake to watch the sailboats or the soccer players. Wild Willy’s is closed up tight for the winter but there were ice fisherman out on the lake in back of me. I tried to sketch them but they moved around too much, checking their lines and drinking their beer.

Quite nice, Shari. I found your site from my Urban Sketcher friends here in Portland, OR. Linda Daily to be specific. I like your style.

Do you first sketch in pencil then wc? Or, just go at it with the brush?

    • Hi Mike. I usually use pencil first, as I did in this one. There are a few on my site that are just brush, like a steeple I did a while back and also a wheelbarrow in the snow in my backyard. Also I sometimes use a Micron black pen and then watercolour. Nice to hear from you!

Looks great. Nice depth between the foreground, mid-ground and background.

Those ice fisherman really missed out – why not go back tomorrow for another shot… just walk over to them, smile sweetly and say “I would really love to paint you guys. Could you please keep still for a little while? You’ll be able to see yourselves on the internet when I’m finished.” How could they resist?
