Cutting trees
Posted: March 27, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized 4 CommentsThere’s not usually much going on in my suburban neighbourhood but I noticed on my way home from school today that they were clearing an empty lot to make room, I suppose, for new house construction. It was a crazy, messy scene and that is what attracted me. So I did a crazy, messy sketch.

That’s great Shari… a really clever use of the vertical format and road to draw the focus into the painting. And these broken edges, which you only started doing a short while ago, are looking really effective.
But, I don’t see any white on the ground… is your snow completely gone now?
Thanks Ross. We have a sprinkling of snow here this morning but that won’t last. It may even be gone by the time I get out to sketch. We’ll be back to spring weather soon, I hope.
Reminds me of the Hockney charcoals and paintings of felled trees in a pile much like this. Love the messiness.
I will have to look this up… I don’t think I’ve seen any Hockney charcoals.
