The moose and the bear
Posted: January 14, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 11 CommentsI was snowshoeing in the woods in Vermont on the weekend but unfortunately spotted no wildlife. These friends were sketched at the Jay General Store. The moose is stuffed and the bear is carved.

The moose is so alive…it looks like it’s going to walk off the wall and go chase a skier!
He did look scarily alive Evie!
nicely done Shari – like the minimal background. Are the light flecks on Bullwinkle’s coat paper or guache?
Thanks John. The light on Bullwinkle is the paper or a light wash showing through.
Great captures!
Thanks Jason!
So, “the moose is stuffed”. Oh, really… I guess that explanation was for the benefit of non-Canadians who may stupidly think that a moose is likely to stick its head through the wall of a general store. : )
Exactly! You probably have kangaroos in Australia who do exactly the same thing, right?
Actually, one night, I was driving along a dark and quiet country road when one (a kangaroo, not moose) tried to enter my car through the passenger’s window… he bounced off leaving a sizable impression in the door panel. You probably won’t believe that but it is true… you can trust me to tell you the truth, I am an architect. : )
I love that you were sketching in the general store! The chandelier is a terrific touch.
There was lots more stuff I could have sketched there too. An old Coke fridge, more carved bears, etc. But I ran out of time…
