Beta testing

Last week I experimented with a bunch of small samples of Stillman & Birn sketchbook papers. My favourite was the Beta series so this week I am trying out a full sketchbook of 7″ x 10″ sheets. I haven’t changed my opinion. In fact, I love the paper even more now that I have a larger sheet to work on. It takes the washes beautifully and it’s a pleasure to paint on such thick white paper (180 lb). The surface is cold pressed but it’s not overly textured nor too smooth. Just right.

Love it! Interesting subject… and a great, balanced composition with the white space and the items being cropped around the edges. I am also envious of the obvious organization… a similar view of my work bench would be a very different composition… more like an after-the-earthquake view.

I thought it was a DALEK for a second. Made me double take!

Shari, I learn more from each of your postings. You are the queen of shadows!

  4. Beautiful, Shari. Love how your pegholes fade away in the shadow. Such a wonderful observation. Making a note to myself to keep looking even at familiar stuff and not draw from memory.
