Mustard yellow
Posted: February 7, 2014 Filed under: Uncategorized 22 CommentsLast week when I cleaned up my palette I noticed several yellows that I never use. In fact I didn’t even know what they were. Cadmium, maybe? Hansa yellow perhaps. A sketch of mustard seemed like the obvious choice to get rid of these mysterious pigments.

Thanks Lesli. I do get a lot of requests for videos but I have a full-time job so doing videos is not in the picture for now. Hopefully one of these days I will get around to it.

Great idea, and what a variety of mustards! Funny, I find yellow a very emotional color: a strong love-hate relationship in my experience. Living in Southern California I am always using a lot of warm yellows. Wish I could come to Seattle for your workshop there. I’ll be in Montreal for 4 days, with 42 choristers aged 10-14!! Not much time for sketching but will be prepared anyway. Always enjoy your posts, usually the first email I open in the mornings.:)
I don’t often paint with a lot of yellow but I may start after doing this. Too bad you won’t be in Montreal for our monthly USk outing. We love to have visiting sketchers. Hope your trip goes well!! Sounds exhausting.

Love the sketch. But what this really suggests to me is that you should reorganize your pantry by colours… forget all this putting mustards together or spices together or cereals together… instead, put all yellow things together, all blue things together, etc. It would make it so much easier when you are cleaning your palette.
