Le Prix du Mont Royal
Posted: May 24, 2015 Filed under: Uncategorized 55 CommentsIt was quite fitting that today, on the 139th birthday of Mount Royal, Le Prix du Mont Royal was awarded to an individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to the life of the mountain. This year the recipient of the prize was Jean Doré, mayor of Montreal from 1986-1994. It was during his term as mayor that the Montreal portion of the mountain was declared a heritage site, plans were set in place for the restoration and conservation of the mountain, and the Chalet lookout was restored. These accomplishments are in part what makes our mountain such a vibrant place. As a proud Montrealer, I was very honoured that my painting “November Panorama” was chosen as the prize. With Mr. Doré (centre) are Peter Howlett (left), president of Les Amis de la Montagne, and our current mayor, Denis Coderre.

Congratulations, Sheri! What an honour to have your work chosen to be the prize.
Thanks Fiona. It was quite an honour.
This is wonderful, Shari. You must have felt so honored.
It was quite wonderful Gabriella. Thanks for writing.
Heartfelt congratulations,Shari. What a wonderful honor!
Thanks Linda. It was an amazing and touching event since Jean Doré is quite ill and could hardly stand.
What an honor for you, Shari, and you certainly deserve it. Congratulations and it is a truly beautiful painting. (I am such a fan of your work. Thank you or posting it for us.)
Thanks so much Kristiina.
How wonderful..for everyone!
Your art really is so great!
Thanks so much Monique.
I guess it’s his last present, but what a present! Being mayor in these years was such a big part of his life, probably the most important of all. I’m sure he is looking at your water-colour and he sees his best years drifting by. It’s really more than a water-colour. I just can’t stop imagining him clutching the painting in his arms… Félicitations, Shari!
Marc

No one paints Montreal better than you. You have
made me look up various locales in your great city
as well as it’s history.
Way to go.
Thanks Tim. I’m happy to be an ambassador for the city and this was a great honour for me.
Congratulations and many thanks for sharing the good news.
Thank you Maria.
Toutes mes félicitations Shari. Quel honneur.
Well, another “mazel tov” to a deserving artist, and a great lady!
Thanks Sarah!
So thrilled for you! And how lucky for him to be the proud “owner” of a beautiful Shari!!!

Thanks Fleet. It was an amazing event since the former mayor is quite ill and could hardly stand. Not a dry eye in the room.

I love your paintings
Thanks so much Lidia.
Congratulations Shari! Mr. Dore is lucky to have one of your beautiful works!
Thanks so much Linda.
Shari, this is so wonderful that your watercolour was the selected artwork for this year’s award. Jean Doré was and still is a real Ami de la montagne, as you are. Merci.
Thanks so much Nathalie. It was a true honour, as you can imagine. And a very emotional moment for everyone. I hope that you are having a wonderful time where you are. Big hugs to Juliette and Martine. Hope the sketching and the croissants are wonderful.
Congratulations Sheri! What a wonderful painting!
Congratulations, wonderful!
Shari, congratulations for the honor and well deserved. You are such a talented AND kind person! Mr. Doré has a prize for sure with that “November Panorama” watercolor painting you did. My friend, Lise, took me atop Mt. Royal and my breath was taken away when I looked out from the Chalet patio!
Fran, I’m so glad you got to see the mountain. We are so lucky to have that in the middle of our beautiful city. And the Chalet patio has such a great view of downtown.
Hi Shari, I meant to congratulate you earlier but, you know how it goes. Anyway, it’s a wonderful recognition for you and a gorgeous painting. However, I hardly recognize M. Dore…I wonder if he’s well or he’s just aged (which I am familiar with)…I’m also about to send an email to see if you and D&R and perhaps K&M could come for brunch some weekend soon…c
Thanks Cheryl. It was an honour to have my painting chosen but a bittersweet event. M. Doré has pancreatic cancer and he could hardly stand. But he gave a great speech, his voice was strong and his mind is sharp. I wanted to meet him when it was over but he was just too weak. I will email you about brunch. We would love it.
