Down to the beach
Posted: July 8, 2016 Filed under: Uncategorized 35 CommentsI am still scanning paintings from my trip to Rockport. I painted this one in the shade of my car, setting up my easel in a parking lot and using my car both as a windbreak and as a shelter from the sun. Of course, sitting in this spot for a few hours allowed me the time to dream a little and think about what I would paint every day if I lived in that house, with that view…
Painted on Saunders Waterford CP 140 lb, 15″ x 11″.
This is so lovely, Shari! I’ve only visited Rockport a few times, but you have captured the feel of that coastal town and the beauty the scene.
Thanks so much Debbie.
Wonderful painting!
Thanks Catherine.
yes I can imagine – you would never want to leave!
That is so true. Every time I go I see new things I want to paint…
Beautiful painting. I just started using Saunders Waterford paper and I love it
Thanks Terry. I hadn’t used it for a long time but I quite like it. It’s smoother than Arches and very velvety.
The bad news is that I bought the last sheet at the store in Steveston and the owner does not seem to be motivated to order more of it. Not available at Opus in Vancouver……leaves me at the mercy at what I can get from Amazon, or perhaps Dick Blick from Seattle.
I am always fascinated by the way you are able to layer things in your work. . . leaf behind leaf, tree behind tree, rock behind rock. And the cars along the street the other day. Wonderful! Thank you.
I never think about that, buy you have summarized it well. That’s exactly what I do. Many thanks.
My favorite of all your work so far – wonderful!
Wonderful painting..and view..Oh me too the water..
Being near water makes me happy Monique. I guess you feel the same way.
Well, that’s quite a view, from a parking lot. Well done

It was a parking lot for the beach, residents only, probably, but no one stopped me from parking there.
This is stunning – as usual. Your colors always grab me first – so masterful with greens, grays, etc but I then savor your excellent proportion & scale with all the painting’s elements. I’m so glad you share these. And really appreciated your new travel palette yesterday. Don’t stress the finger ring too much – mine popped out. And love the way you’re relaxing with daydreams, too.
Thanks Soni. That’s a good tip. I usually clip my palette to the board so it won’t be too much stress on the ring.
and now thanks to your painting, we can enjoy our own daydream of the perfect seaside house, on a perfect sunny day with just a slight breeze rustling that tree, pause awhile on that lower level deck to sink into an adirondack chair, listen to the gulls and gentle surf….and….”hey, who’s over there painting?” Oui, c’est si bon!!
Merci!!!
so amazing that you can just pull up to a place and paint a work of art like this ! Such talent!
Thanks so much Jodi.
Just imagine sitting there at different times of the day and different seasons of the year…WOW! Love this!!
As Joan said – WOW !
I should have a thesaurus ready when I devour your work – just the very most positive sections would be enough.
stunning picture — so lifelike — really delights the eyes just looking at it in the way that Nature herself does
There are lucky people living in a place like that! What a beautiful painting!!!
Enchanting watercolor, love how you make the details come alive.
Love this – so crisp. wonderful colors and brushwork.
Simply superb!
High I’m new to your blog and been pluckng up my courage to make a comment, but you make it looks so great I think we’d all like to stay and paint there
I’m new to your blog and have been plucking up my courage to write a comment, but sitting in my conservatory in cloudy Gloucestershire (in the not veryUnited Kingdom), your painting makes me just wish I was there
so I’m taking it you always work light to dark…this coming from an abstract artist that doesn’t usually use watercolors. It’s a fine dance of layers, I use to teach airbrush and it’s the same thing to add layers of color to give it a more well rounded realistic approach. But watercolor is also very subtle like using a spray sometimes right? This is really wonderful.
Shari
As we say in Maine, that painting’s a “Keepah”!

I immediately recognized this house. I love this house in Rockport. So elegant the way the builders used the rocky landscape down to the ocean. Wonderful painting
Woow nice..hello everyone
