A sneak peek at my book
Posted: November 26, 2018 Filed under: Uncategorized 61 CommentsLast week I spent some time reviewing the final proofs for my upcoming book and just found out that I can share a bit of the content with you here. It’s so exciting to see it all come together and it will be even better when I can hold a printed copy in my hands in April 2019.
This spread is from the chapter on Pigments and Color Mixing. There’s all kinds of cool stuff in this section, like basic watercolour techniques and choosing your colours, but the parts I liked writing the most were the colour recipes for creating greens or darks or colour for shadows.
It was really fun to go through my archive of sketches and look back at how some of these mixes were created. And if I didn’t remember the details, it helped to go back through old blog posts too, since I often write about what mixes I use. My main goal with the book is to encourage you to be more expressive with colour, and I can’t wait for you to see the work of all the contributors who generously sent me sketches and shared their colour secrets as well.
This is very exciting, Shari. So wonderful to see your work coming together. I’m looking forward to receiving your book in April. Congrats. Carol
Great to hear from you Carol. Thanks so much!!
Congratulations, Shari! I know it will be wonderful.
Thanks for your vote of confidence Christine.
I can’t wait until I have a copy in my hand. I look forward to seeing the section on color mixes. I really love your shadow mixes.
Thanks Mayela. I hope you like it.
I’m so glad you posted this again. I looked to order when you first announced your book, but at that stage wasn’t available for pre order in Australia. I can now and I’m so looking forward to receiving it……a late Christmas present for me 😁
Thank you. I am in Australia too so will go and seek out a pre order.
Sandy, try Booktopia. Free international postage.
Oops, I meant Bookdepository.
Thanks Sandi!
Glad to hear that it’s available Ros!
It looks great! I’m so looking forward to reading it!
Thanks Minerva. I can’t wait to see it printed as well.
Just can’t wait to get the book!
Thanks Sylvie!
It sounds like you put a lot of thinking hours in the book. Looks beautiful and interesting. This book already has a place on my bookshelf.
Oh yes, lots of hours. Many, many hours. But of course I wanted it to be full of useful info so I also did lots of new illustration to show the colour mixes.
Having followed your blog for several years now, I so look forward to reading your new book and learning more from you. Congratulations!
Thanks so much Judith. Hope it lives up to expectations.
Is your book still on sale by internet? I want it for Chrismas. Were can I get it?
HI Nicole. It is available for preorder on Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Chapters, Book Depository, etc. Lots of place. It will be published in April 2019.
Congratulations, Shari! I eagerly await the release of your new book, and hope to learn some of your colour secrets. Will they apply to acrylic paint as well as watercolour?
Great to hear from you Heather. I don’t specifically cover acrylics in this book but of course lots of the idea can be used with acrylic paint. I didn’t cover acrylics since this is mostly gearing towards urban sketching and most sketchers use watercolour, or gouache.
This is looking great! I will be excited to hold it in my hands and read all the great ideas, techniques, and skills you’ve put together. I’m looking forward to it!
Thanks Sue. I hope you like it.
it looks wonderful – how exciting!
Yes, very exciting!
Looks great.
Thanks Sue Anne!
What a treat to wake up and find this on my laptop. Like everyone else-hard to wait for your book to arrive. I have so many notes on mixing colors from you-scattered in various places. To have them all in one book will be a pleasure.
Judy, thank you for always finding the right words of encouragement.
Wow-ee Shari!
Hope you like it Sandi.
How exciting is that! Looks great and like everyone else can’t wait to see all that hard won, stored up knowledge in print for us all the benefit from.
And I can’t wait to see all the work of my generous contributors. Thanks again Tony.
How exciting to see a sneak peek of your upcoming publication. I much prefer to hold a book in my hands, turn the pages and sometimes add my comments rather than an online only publication. I keep several books close to my favorite chair, in a basket. Often I study pages and my eye memorizes strokes or color combinations that I hope to capture in my work.thank you, as always for the gift you are to so many, of whom I am one.
I agree with you on that Bernadette. I just love to sit next to book shelves of art books and look through them. There’s nothing like holding a book in your hands.
So exciting, Shari! Looks like your book is a real winner! Just
Ike your paintings 😃👍
Ah, thank you Linda!
Looking forward to it!!
Thanks Monique!
I’m SO looking forward to this book: it’s only recently that I’ve gotten really interested in the particular pigments I’m using and what they do together, so your summer 2019 release date is perfect timing for me 🙂
Thanks Suhita. I hope it will give you some good suggestions for colour!
This is really exciting– I’m really looking forward to seeing the book in print. It must be very hard to do so much work and not be able to share it….yet!
So true Jean. It’s been really hard not to share all of the book stuff since I post so much of what I do online. But I can’t give it all away, I guess. Have to leave some surprises for when you get the book.
Congratulations on the upcoming printing of your new book. It certainly looks to have the same high quality and creative flair as all of the work you put your name to. How exciting for you!
I hope it does, of course. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement.
I cannot wait! Definitely will be counting down the months. I hope to someday be able to paint as well as you. I adore your work!
Thanks so much Connie!
Congrats on the new book. Looks like it will be filled with great tips and information if this page is any indication!!!
I tried to fill it with lots of great stuff. Thanks so much Joan.
Wow Shari! Can’t wait for this!
Thanks Rita!
