Sunday second start
Posted: January 12, 2020 Filed under: Uncategorized 31 CommentsIt’s a weekend to stay indoors in Montreal. Even the hardiest of painters can’t paint from the car with freezing rain falling. So I did the next best thing. I bought my traditional grocery store bouquet (meaning the cheapest one I could find) and I set up in my studio.
It always takes two starts to get going when I haven’t painted flowers for a while. The first try is usually painted too dryly, or badly composed, or overworked. Take your pick. Today, for my second start, I gave up on the pencil drawing and drew first with a rigger brush. The painted outline generally helps to loosen up my brush strokes and get me going.
Lovely, lovely, lovely! I don’t see any evidence of your rigger drawing,it all blended in nicely.
Thanks Bernadette. I need a boost of colour that day.
You may be out of practice but your flowers are stunning
Thanks so much Doug.
Sparkles as always. Using the rigger to draw with kept it very light and transparent.
Thanks Jeff!
So nice to hear about your process Shari. It’s something I hope do do as part of my goals for 2020. Thank you for sharing so generously!
Great to hear from you Theresa. Hope you’re staying warm in Alberta. The temperatures look brutal now.

Hi Shari! Must be hard to have freezing rain after a month at Sanibel Island! Love the flowers – especially the rose! Thank you for everything that you paint and post and your descriptions. Always enjoy. Ellen
Ellen, it was very hard to come back to the cold, but I’m used to it now. Just had to switch my seascapes to snowscapes. Hope all is well with you!
Beautiful!
Thanks Emily!
Lovely!! Much better than being out in the freezing rain.
That’s for sure! And I could drink tea at the same time. Hope all is well with you and Jerry. Sending hugs.
Nicely executed!
Thanks so much.
Good Morning Dear Shari,
The highlight of your sketch is the transparency of Glass jar viewing those beautiful flowers.
This reminds me of the Statue” Veil of Rebecca” sculpted by famous Italian sculptor Giovanni Maria Benzoni .

Nothing more to say.
Blessings,
Uma
Uma, thanks for sending the link to Veil of Rebecca. It is hard to believe that is made of stone. You look it and feel as if you could lift the fabric from her face. Quite remarkable. Thanks for sharing it.
Good Morning beloved friend Shari,
Happy you have used the link to view the marvelous works.
Later many followed and copied Giovanni Maria Benzoni works.
But Giovanni Maria Benzoni was the only one who did the sculpture from top to bottom in full scale.
He made some 4 or 5 identical ones and researchers who witnessed all of them, say that it is difficult to find any difference between each.
You know about our Late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minster of India, who inaugurated the museum in 1951, has asked one of the staff members to put a chair for him to view the Statue to complete satisfaction.
It is believed he spent almost 30 minutes, constantly watching the statue.

I saw this statue some six times, in this Museum located at Hyderabad, 580 km from my place Bangalore and takes one hour by flight.
You are right, we feel listing tat fabric to see her face directly and may be the original fabrics also do not look so silky and smooth..
So now I hope, you realized, how much value I gave to your sketch and I feel I am looking at those flowers through the glass.
Please view this museum online

You will find the wooden sculpture looks like a King from front and a queen from behind.
Once again thanks for sharing your beautiful Art.
With regards and blessings,
Uma.
OMG give those flowers some water! Oh wait, that’s only a watercolor painting. Geez Shari, those look so real.
Thanks for making me laugh Richard. Yes, I gave them some water!
Nice painting of flowers, I like how all the blotches blend together to build up the image.
Thanks so much Shawn. I tried to keep those flowers loose and fresh. Glad you like ’em!
