Turn, turn

When I chose this lakeside spot to paint, it was because of the perfect reflection of the foreground boat on the still water. But it wasn’t until I started to draw that I realized that the boat was in a constant slow spin in the water. So my process was to draw a bit from observation, then draw a bit from memory, and then wait for the boat to come back to its original position and start again. These Saturday morning boats were painted on a pad of Arches CP paper, using lots of Cobalt and Cerulean Blue, a bit of Quinacridone Rose and some Raw Sienna for warmth.

Gorgeous. You’ve captured the light, the mood and the sparkle. The shadow in front of the boat is especially masterful, if not, perfect.

Thanks for taking me there – great visit 🙂

Yes, you certainly captured the atmosphere of a summer lake – wonderful feel to this painting. I will be in upstate NY later this month and look forward to seeing some scenes like this. 🙂

    A lovely Serene, Saturday morning
    feeling to your painting! 👍

    Wow! Perfection, indeed 👏

  5. Despite the fact that the boat kept turning, you mastered this! Lovely job!! It is much easier to paint boats at the dock where they are tied up on both sides and stay in place. I had the same problem with a boat recently.

Your painting is really beautiful.  I love the way you capture the reflections, the shadows, and the way the sky blends into the ocean. Laurie

Boats are one of my favorite things and especially love the way you paint them!
Probably not any boats around Monet’s Garden, but maybe you can still show me some tips 😂
