Berry Hill, Nashville
Posted: March 23, 2024 Filed under: Uncategorized 11 CommentsIf I can, I usually arrive at least a day early at a new workshop location. I feel more comfortable teaching in a place that’s at least a little bit familiar to me. That was the case last week in Nashville. I arrived on Monday evening so I had Tuesday to drive around with my host and sketch in the Berry Hill neighbourhood of Nashville where Warehouse 521 is located. It’s a great area, and the art studio is surrounded by recording studios, small cafés and restaurants. I sketched Nashville Jam Co, which I thought was a music venue of some sort but it turns out that it’s a brunch place where they make their own jam. You can see all of my Nashville sketches in the latest issue of my newsletter The Wheelbarrow. And there’s a link there for a new YouTube video of me in my kitchen sketching these green onions.
Love the sketch and the composition … but still looking for the Nashville cat in there somewhere 😉
Tony, I had to look that one up. But of course, who could forget that song?? Thanks for the reminder to listen to the Lovin’ Spoonful sometimes.
great composition, I love the depth in the scene and all the details, like the stuff in the Jam window. The whole sketch evokes a sense of place. Bravo! 😉
Thanks Alison. It was so nice to be out on that spring day, sitting at a picnic table and looking at this scene. We considering having brunch there too but it never happened. I bet they have good jam.
This all looks amazing Shari. Any chance of you going back next year?
Nothing in the works yet! I will let you know if that changes!
Congratulations on becoming a signature member of the American Watercolor Society!
I had to look up what that membership distinction means. It appears your work has been accepted to three shows of the AWS. How wonderful!
Betsy, thanks so much. Being a signature member means a great deal to me. It’s such an honour. So thank you for taking the time to write. I will be going to NYC to the awards dinner where they do the presentation to new signature members. I’m so excited about that!!
What a cute place to sketch! I can hear it calling you. I like the play of light and the shadows on the buildings. It would have my attention if I was there too. Your painting of it gives me a good feeling.
Bellísimos colores y hermosos contrastes de luces y sombras.
Excellent drawing Shari. I really like how you captured the buildings and trees. Nice colours of the glass on the buildings.
