Abandoned in winter

Spring is definitely in the air when the snow starts to melt and all sorts of lost items (as well as plenty of trash) are revealed. The most mysterious objects to me are the bikes that have been tethered to parking meters and other posts for seemingly the whole winter. With chains covered in plastic bags, handlebars rusting, and tires deflated, this is a ubiquitous sight in Montreal. Don’t you wonder why they’ve been left there and if their owners will ever come to claim them?

  1. TOTALLY captures one of my all-time favourite wintry scenes ~ a mixture of happiness for the absolute beauty of snow, combined with the longing for springtime & summer that’s buried under all that beauty! STUNNING, as always <3

Well done Shari. I like it.

AHA! Something I’ve been taking photographs for years! Am STAGGERED at how many bikes are left, orphaned, LOCKED (why?) to a post or bike stand. I anthropomorphise and anguish over their rejection. Where is bike heaven? What does the city do with them? Thank you for HONOURING these poor critters who have served so honorably in life carrying…uh oh – she’s going off her nut…oops
    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is amazing. Scenario: I think I’ll go for a bike ride. Oh, it’s starting to snow. I’ll just lock up my bike and walk home. Pick it up in spring.

    Could that be?

Glad there are signs of spring in Montreal.

As we Macleod’s say “Hold Fast” Spring is on it’s way, albeit slow but it will come! The bikes are a colourful reminder of what will be soon in your sketches!
