Marie, thirty-minute poses
Posted: February 9, 2015 Filed under: Uncategorized 12 CommentsLast week at life drawing I found the half-hour poses difficult. Not enough time to really complete a quarter-sheet painting, and too long for a quick sketch. Today I decided to pick a focus for the thirty-minute poses. Marie has amazing hair — thick and curly — beautiful both piled on top of her head, or flowing over her shoulders. And the purple feather earrings in the first pose just added to the drama.

Well done! Both.. You’re so talented.
Thanks Monique. She was a great model.
i love them both ! Nice sketch, very difficut.
Thanks so much.
Both look great to me given what you were trying to achieve in 30 minutes. Each to their own I know, but I prefer what looks to me to be the lighter touch, looser style and more relaxed approach of the second one …. maybe the result of having worked out from the first pose what was realistically achievable in the time?
I prefer the light touch of the second one too Tony. As you know, each time you do life drawing you learn something. The subtleties of the flesh tones are so difficult but in this case the dark hair helped to add focus.
These sketches remind me of the story of the two Mexican detectives who were investigating the murder of Juan Gonzales.
“How was he killed?” asked one detective.
“With a golf-gun”, the other replied.
“A golf-gun, what’s a golf-gun?”
“It’s a gun that made a hole in Juan”. : )
Ok, the joke made me laugh.
But how does it relate to this post??
Isn’t it obvious?
OBVIOUSLY not, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked.
Doesn’t Marie look just a little bit Mexican to you?
Ok, got it. I think the shape of her hair in the top one is a bit like Frida Kahlo…
