Hair salon

The ladies at the hair salon don’t look very happy, no doubt because one has a plastic bag on her head and the other has slimy goop covering her scalp. Sometimes when I am drawing people I show them the final sketch, but I did this one as surreptitiously as possible, for obvious reasons. Sketched in a Stillman & Birn Beta sketchbook, using a water-soluble brush pen.

Too funny! I expect the salon smells have something to do with their expressions . . . .

Ha ha, love your description – who can be happy with a plastic bag and goop on her head…

Makes me wonder if someone has drawn me- heavens knows where. A question-do you keep all your sketches even if you don’t like them? I don’t even tho I have heard that you should.

Great sketch and comments. They make me smile and I imagine they make you smile too. I admire your courage and ability to sneak in a drawing without much notice.

Hi Shari. My first thought was back to your 100 people challenge. I find your people-sketching has become so crazy good since then. The details that you pick out and choose to sketch, well, you are so talented and perceptive. Your people sketches bring us right into that moment!

  7. I don’t think people looks too happy at a hair salon anyway…too much being done to them, and then being worried about the final look. lol I think you captured it perfectly. I always say I’m going to sketch when I have my hair done or go for a pedi, but it is the only time I allow myself to read “People” or “Us” magazines so I do that instead.
