Helping hands
Posted: March 23, 2020 Filed under: Uncategorized 31 CommentsI’ve seen lots of sketches of rolls of toilet paper online, but these are the unsung heroes in my house — the various hand creams and rescue ointments that help repair the wreckage from incessant hand washing and disinfecting of various surfaces. What’s your secret remedy for sandpaper skin?
Measuring out and drinking (gulping )water. A doctor told me sipping does get you enough water

Thanks Bonnie. I hope you and your family are well, through all of this!
Hi. I wear gloves for household chores and washing dishes so my hands don’t get wet all the time. I use a lot of hand and body lotion. It is very dry here in winter.
Meena, I wear gloves too sometimes, but I think they contribute to the dryness! It’s very dry here too, especially during the winter with central heating. Stay well.
This is so funny. And you are so right. All this hand washing is hard on the hands. And you ended up with a nice painting. and once again, proved that you can paint anything. And anything can be painted.
Judy, I’m glad you got the humour in this. We need a little of that these days, don’t we?
Bag Balm! It’s a miracle product.
I’ll send you a sketch. 🙂
What’s that interesting pencil outline on the tabletop?
I know you bought me Bag Balm years ago, but I think I finished it. It’s so good! Burt’s Bees ResQ cream is a bit like it, but costs a lot more. That’s the little round canister.
A&D ointment, normally used for diaper rash.
It’s greasy, so apply in moderation, or at night before you turn in.
Really? Ok, I will look into this. Never heard of it. I guess my kids never had diaper rash : )
A layer of vaseline and a pair of white cotton gloves, overnight.
thanks so much Nicole. That is one remedy I have never tried.
Any hand/body cream with colloidal oatmeal. Aveeno and Neosporin make several products, most labeled for eczema (which it also works for). Just look at the ingredients. Several drug stores have their own brand of the same.
Thanks Kate. I use Aveeno all the time, but not sure there’s colloidal oatmeal in what I have. I need to check. Much appreciated.
Cerave cream. 1 pound jar. Ceramides in the Cerave cream help so much. Will see max results in 30 days, but don’t stop using it. Recommend it constantly.
Of course you would know. I should have asked you directly Emily. I’ve never heard of this but I will look into it now. Many thanks!
you are so right! i’m still searching for a good one
Read the comments Beth. There are so many good suggestions.
I got some good ideas from them )
O’Keefe’s Working Hands
Wow, another one I’ve never heard of. Thanks Jan!
Someone mentioned gloves…..helpful with any type of cream but I use straight Vaseline at night. Does get on the sheet though… so gloves are good. My nails are suffering also. Did some sketching and a watercolor of the flatiron building in NY….need to do over!!! Important that we get some wine tomorrow!!!!! It’s snowing now…sorry for babbling!!!
All of the above are crucial in difficult times Donna. In order of importance: wine, a good sketch of the Flatiron building and then some effective hand cream.
I often make a special trip to Canada to buy Glycerindermine, not spelled correctly. It’s made in your country and is full of glycerine and lasts all day. I love it but can’t get it in the states. Check your drugstore, I got it in Magog.
Hi Shari — we use the Coriander and Olive Tree Hand Soap by Fruits & Passion and it is very good. Here is the link… https://www.fruits-passion.com/en-ca/collections/cucina/coriander-and-olive-tree
Good Morning dear Shari,
This is a very useful sketch and also a reminder for Health practice.
You find everything, person and place, worth a subject for your sketches.
I love your great noble mind & heart.
Regards and blkessings,
Uma
We use Weleda Skin Food and the bottle is a lovely bright sap green!
Look forward to your online course – I much enjoyed the Craftsy landscapes and the urban sketching course.
Keep safe and well
Purchase USP Lanolin. Slather it on your hands before bed and put will gloves on over it. The next morning your hands will be restored. The second night, just put the same gloves on your hands without putting lanolin on your hands. There is enough lanolin in the wool to treat your hands again.
I seem to have amassed a collection..love the scent mentioned above Cucina/Fruits Passion..Olive/Coriandre..hand soap.pump…by the kitchen sink..a couple of months ago Costco had some on sale..and another cute set of many hand soaps in pumps..we bought them..not ever anticipating this.
Cerave is good:)
Cabtree and Evelyn have one. that leaves your hands with a nice..waxy coating;)La Source..Hand Recovery♥
So true..you can paint anything!Take care .
Glycerodermine is THE BEST for sure. Available in most pharmacies in Quebec, like JeanCoutu. Just like Ruth Kaldor said, the best. Last even if you wash your hands a few times. If you have open crevasses, it will hurt though. Excellent on my 5 year old (very dry hands) all the way to my parents (fragile skin)! Available in also on Amazon but more expensive on Amazon. Try it and let us know your coments if you can.
I like anything that has a light scent and isn’t greasy
