Here today gone tomorrow
Posted: July 5, 2020 Filed under: Uncategorized 53 CommentsThe daylilies that opened in the garden this week are so vibrant, so shockingly ORANGE, that I had to paint them with pure orange paint. There’s nothing I can mix from red and yellow that could come close to the pure fiery saturation of Schmincke Transparent Orange. And for today’s sketch I decided not to draw with pen or pencil first. I wanted the brush to lead me as I made the flower shapes, and then have the pigment and water combine within those shapes. Sketched on Fabriano CP paper.
Really lovely organge! I have the same ones as well as yellow ones in my front garden…You inspire me to get out and paint them, Shari. Thanks for that 🙂
I hope you got out to paint Peri! I don’t know about yours but mine don’t last long!
Wow! You have truly captured the color! Beautiful painting!
Thanks for writing Sue. Glad you like them!!
Your day lilies are absolutely gorgeous! Love that juicy pop of colour. Such energy! Thanks for the recommendation, although you’ve blown my resolve to refrain from buying another tube of paint.
I’m sure there are other oranges that will do the job, but this one is just so vibrant!
the results are beautiful and I think you’ve captured the color very nicely
Thanks Beth!
Success!!!!
Thanks!!
They dance before our eyes. Beautiful rhythm running throughout. The colors are stunning against the white background. Another floral gem.
Ah, thanks Jeff!!
Wow, these are gorgeous.
Thanks Sue!
Spectacular! You’ve truly captured the fleeting wild intensity of these blooms. Wonderfully drawn.
Thanks Alison!!
This is perfection!
Thanks Nancy!!
Lovely! Great dance of shapes.
Thanks Robert. They did seem as if they were dancing when I looked at them.
Wow! They look just like the lilies in my garden! Lovely!
Linda, I hope you are painting yours!
Those are beautiful and look so real! Absolutely love them!
Thanks so much Isabelle.
wow – lovely!
Thanks very much Maria!
I have to repeat the word gorgeous. Orange is my favorite flower color. I prefer it even in roses. I have been trying to paint flowers for so long and never seem to succeed so I appreciate your skill at this.
Thanks Judy. So nice to have you back!
Simply beautiful Shari
Thanks for writing Carol. Glad you like them!
Absolutely fabulous!
Thanks Denise!!
Beautiful!

Thanks so much Andrea!
If those Daylilies could speak, they’d say “Look how lovely we are!”
They probably would!!
Absolutely fabulous! You’ve captured their beauty perfectly!
Thanks Connie!!
Shari, these are gorgeous! I am getting ready for my first attempt at painting my beloved daylilies, so precious with their blooms that only last one day!!
I have a question and don’t know the proper place to ask it. Sorry! Please feel free to delete it here.
I wanted to buy your two classes on Bluprint, and did not figure it out before they unexpectedly shut down. Is there a chance that someday, somehow, those two classes will be available again? They were so good and included so much. (I reviewed them during a free time period). I really want them!!
Thanks for all you share with us, Shari.

Hi Gayl. Thanks so much for writing. This is a perfect place to ask this question. Actually we just found out that a company has purchased the Bluprint content, so you will soon be able to purchase them. Have a look here: https://www.mybluprint.com
Of course, you should also have a look at my brand new courses on my very own teaching website: https://learn.shariblaukopf.com. Lots of choices there too, and the reviews have been fantastic!! Let me know if you have more questions! Best regards, Shari

Merci Karim!!
Love your calligraphic approach in doing watercolor. I mean it as an experienced sign writer that you have the magic touch is the use of the brush ! The other compliment I have is your sense of color where oranges and greens can easily become garish in application..
Thanks so much James. I know what you mean about combining orange and green. I feel that way when I paint in the autumn. I think this sketch works because there’s so much white background. I always have trouble painting sugar maples in autumn when there’s too much orange and nothing to balance it.
Refreshingly lovely!!!
Thanks Joan!!
That orange is beautiful! I don’t have that orange. It is so brilliant. Thanks for the info. I need to paint these tomorrow. But I’ll need to make my own orange.
Schmincke’s trans orange is a staple on my palette…such a great color! Our “summer” has been so cool to now, the daylillies in my yard are only beginning to think about blooming 😉
I hope you have your Transparent Orange ready for when they do bloom Tracy. Thanks for writing!!
Just adding another Wow
Nice Daylillies, or Ditch Lillies as my Grandfather calls them. They look amazing for a few short weeks, but then look more like a weed. I had a lot of them in our rock garden when we moved here, but we pulled them out. Now they are growing back again slowly and I Might leave a few as there was very bad selection at the garden centre this year.
I really like how you used a white background, it goes good with the bright orange flowers.
Good Evening Dear friend Shari,
Excellent color combination of Yellow, orange and green and these daylilies look really beautiful. I admire the amazing look and live you brought in to these lovely flowers.
I will look in to all other works leisurely and comment.
Thanks
All the best and good luck.
Have a beautiful day every day, like your paintings.
God bless you and your whole family.
My blessings to you and your whole family.
With love and regards
