U-turn
Posted: October 2, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 10 CommentsThe colours of the trees this week are vibrant and intense — set against an unending blue sky. I decided to attack them with bold brush strokes from my flat brush, using some pure pigment. First I faced one way down a street near my house, then I turned the car around and looked the other way at an empty lot.
Love the depth of the street view and the clear simplicity of it.
You make it look so easy, yet there is so much said.
Thanks Chris. It’s always great to hear from you.
I really like the ways you’ve drawn the rough border in, not sure why, but I like itxx
I drew the rough border in because I was painting two sketches on one sheet of paper and that helps me delineate and compose each one.
I love these… so simple, so un-fussy and obviously so quick. But as always, the values are just right and the colours sing. And you are back to the car studio… has it got that cold there?
Thanks Ross. It’s really warm here. In fact we are having some incredible weather. Blue skies and 20° days for weeks on end. I guess that must be like your winters : ) But this street wasn’t one where I could really find a spot to sit so I stayed in the car.
Yes, wonderful simplicity! I really like those dark notes on the light grass and the bright green ones on the dark bushes in the background.
Thanks Carola!
It is a wonderful idea – to turn around and take a good look at where you have been.
I’ve done that a few times Lee and the second view often comes out better than the first. Probably because I’m warmed up and more relaxed.
