Mr. Poliquin
Posted: December 21, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 15 CommentsI’m always reluctant to draw in nursing homes or hospitals — somehow it seems like an invasion of privacy. But Mr. Poliquin was listening to a beautiful Romanian choir and was quite content to let me sketch him. I didn’t have a sketchbook with me but I had my trusty Muji pencil and a piece of letter-size scrap paper (the other side of which comes through in the scan) and that did the job.
Wonderful. Conveys beautifully his contentment. Did you see the nice comment about you on the Parka blog interview with Suhita Shirodkar?
I hadn’t seen it but of course I had a look. In fact I have to take a picture of my supplies for Parka since he will be interviewing me next.
Very nice Shari. I’ve been spending some time in a “home” these past weeks and this inspires me to do some portraits
I would like to see yours John. It took me a long time to work up the courage to do this.
That’s very sensitively drawn. I hope he got to see it.
He did and he liked it!
You never cease to amaze me with your sketching skills, Shari, and this portrait is no exception. I learn so much from seeing what you do and reading about your thoughts on the process of drawing. Thank you for continuing to post.
Thanks so much for letting me know Jo. It means a lot to me.
That is beautifully expressive linework around the main features of the face… and that suggestive linework in the hair is really great!
Thanks Ross. He was a good model and he has great eyebrows!
Lovely drawing and I think I know what brought you there. Blessings on you for the season. Your friend, Lee
Thanks my friend. Hope you and your family have a great holiday season.
What is a muji pencil?
Muji is a Japanese store. There’s one in Paris where I bought my first pencil and also a small one in the MOMA in New York. I just love the feel of the pencil.
Excellent!
