Lobster lunch
Posted: June 15, 2019 Filed under: Uncategorized 25 CommentsThis is always the first view I sketch in Rockport — the one right from my door. To the right of this scene is Roy Moore Lobster Co, and today, on a sunny Saturday in June, the picnic tables on the back deck are packed. Standing room only for lobster rolls and clam chowder. This family was smart. Instead of waiting for a table they took their lunch out to the wharf and found a spot to eat. I would have done the same thing.
love the way you easily simplify the view in front of you !

Thanks Carol. I didn’t have much time for this one, so simplifying the scene was an easy way to make sure I got everything in before I had to go out.

Great painting, looks like fun for all. How nice you are close enough to order often.
I like how you painted all houses the same muted blue grey. The focus now goes to the family enjoying a meal together. Great painting….as always!

Thanks Bernadette. Yes, we are close Rockport which is why I keep coming back. But I also love it which makes a return especially nice.

Love the painting. Are you vacationing? Or teaching? If teaching, I so wish I was there. I live on the Northshore/Merrimack Valley! Nearby. Hope the weather stays nice for you.

Judith, I try to come here every year to paint. Yes, this is a painting vacation with no teaching, which is unusual for me. It’s good to take a bit of time just to paint and recharge the batteries.

Shari, if you have the opportunity, take advantage of nearby painting sites at Bass Rocks, Eastern Point (bear the retreat center), and one of my favorites—the marshes in Essex on the Trustees of Reservations land, facing Crane Beach and backside of Gloucester coast. Wonderful—all. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for the suggestions Judith. These are all new to me except for Essex. I’ve been to Crane Beach and seen the marshes while driving to Woodman’s of Essex. I’ve painted the Eastern Point Light but never seen Bass Rocks. Much appreciated!

Love how you simplified what I know had to be a very crowded scene. I’m ready to go sit on the wharf with them. That punch of color is great!!!

Thanks Joan. I haven’t had my lobster roll yet either, so I’m ready for the wharf too.

The spots of color on the people really make them the center of attention. Just the mention of lobster rolls makes me want to be there. Nice painting.
