Rue St. Paul facing east
Posted: April 28, 2023 Filed under: Uncategorized 10 CommentsOld Montreal is at its best in the morning, so when I go downtown to cut my hair I always make an early appointment and arrive even earlier to draw. It’s not easy to park on the narrow streets but I found a spot on rue St. Paul, facing east, and drew a view with a slice of light hitting the building at the corner of McGill Street. My paper was a bit too textured to get a smooth tone with graphite but when I got home I used a blending stump to even it out. Sketched in a 8″ x 5″ Hkie sketchbook from Indonesia.

love the dreamlike feeling I get watching this lovely delicate drawing. ❤️🫵

I like how you pictured the tree in front, in the sunlight.

This appeals to me on an emotional level because I worked near this location in the 1960s and remember how interesting the buildings and streets were. I’m happy to see from your drawing that magic is still there!

I love the purity of this one. It’s all about the light and there’s nothing in it that doesn’t support the narrative.
